Charters and Important Plot Points Stolen is a second person point of view, in which Gemma is writing to Ty. Ty is the man that has been watching over Gemma almost his whole entire life. When Ty was a boy he lived on a farm with his mother and father. His mother and his father didn't like each other an eventually got a divorce. Ty's father started spending more time at bars. Ty father eventually completely left his life and Ty started to drink.(86) He was in a bush drunk and homeless when Gemma are other main character stumbled into the bush ask him a few question, told him a secret, and gave him a flower. After that Ty devoted his life to watching and kidnapping Gemma. Gemma was a 16-year-old rebellious teen. She would wear what her parents didn't want her to wear(1). She would be stubborn and would stay out late and not listen. She was then kidnapped in the airport by Ty not listening to her parents and going back to them.(5-9) Themes and Symbols of Stolen One important theme is the setting. The Australian desert is an important theme because at first, Gemma doesn't like the desert. She absolutely hates the sand, all the plants, and the animals.(20-220) She doesn't want anything to do with it and eventually, after a while, Ty convinces Gemma that the desert isn't a bad place and that so many people take nature and its beauty for granted.(226-227) This also relates back to modern society. Many people don't pay attention to nature and people are distracted by electronics and social media and forget about the outside world. An many people take place like the dessert that is extremely hot or North pole which is extremely cold for granted because people would be uncomfortable in those regions. When really if you look at it the right way those regions are the best places to be.
